Tutoring & Academic Coaching

Learn how your brain learns.

I'm Kat (they/them), a learning scientist and academic coach for high school and college students. I help students understand their own learning style so they can become confident, independent learners — not just get through the next test.

About Kat

Kat is a learning scientist who applies the science of learning directly with students. Rather than just reviewing material, Kat helps students get to know themselves as learners — understanding how their brain works, what their learning style is, and how to advocate for it — so the skills carry far beyond any one class.

Kat has particular experience working with neurodivergent students, including those with ADHD, autism, and memory-based learning differences, and brings that lens to every session.

What students & families say

"I am very happy to recommend Kat Silaj, who has worked with our family as my daughter's tutor for several years. Throughout that time, Kat has been exceptionally diligent, dependable, and honest. More importantly, they have been incredibly supportive and genuinely caring toward my daughter. They have a wonderful ability to be patient and encouraging while also keeping her focused and helping her work through challenges. I trust Kat completely. They are extremely responsible and I feel incredibly fortunate that my daughter has had their educational support. I would wholeheartedly recommend Kat to any family looking for a thoughtful, highly capable, and genuinely dedicated private tutor."

— Mies Anderson, parent

"Working with Kat has been extremely helpful in assisting me with learning and organizing my time to become a more effective and capable student. Having a tutor that takes the time to explain and provide guidance through difficult subjects has been an imperative for my academic success. Kat's knowledge and field of expertise is extensive and has helped me through numerous classes that extend from history, political science, mathematics and science related courses. I adamantly recommend Kat as a tutor to anyone that is looking for a teacher that is highly competent, willing to work around your schedule and puts in the time and effort to ensure you get the best grade and understanding of the subject you need to help with. 10/10."
